A few days ago, Google released a new iPhone app called Google Shopper (which requires iOS 4.0). This app already existed for Android phones. It is quite similar to Amazon’s Price Check and Ebay Red Laser.
Google Shopper is a mobile search engine for products allowing you to compare prices and read product reviews. In order to search for a specific product, you can either type the name, speak it, scan its barcode or capture its picture. Users will be able to see a list of stores, prices and reviews related to this item. There are a few nice features such as a history option allowing users to check previous searches; other options allow users to mark products as favourite and share them. I think it’s a great idea since it can be very tricky and frustrating to look for what you want on the internet. Visual search is becoming more and more popular. Google Lab presented Google Goggles a few months ago which also works via visual search. Below is a quick demo of these cool tools:
