Yes you’ve read well. As part of the 2011 Pwn2Own contest, Google is offering a $20,000 cash prize for any security researcher (hacker) who can successfully compromise a Cr-48 Chrome Notebook via a sandbox escape in its Chrome web browser. During last year’s contest (run annually by security firm Tipping Point), Google Chrome was the only browser left unharmed. This year, at the CanSecWest conference, the web browser targets will be the latest release of the following products: Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Mobile phones will also be a target including iPhone 4, BlackBerry Torch, Dell Venue and Nexus S.
Let’s see if this year the best hackers can shatter Google’s invincibility!
